Book excerpt: Valentine Niebergall, is a quiet young man born with a restless spirit. After his mother passes away in 1873, Val travels from Germany on a steamship to America. He lists his occupation as a butcher on the ship log. Once he gets to America he travels by train to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he finds work as a butcher. Val marries the store owners daughter, Anna. Soon they travel to Austin, Minnesota, and Val meets George Hormel. Mr. Hormel asks Val if he starts up a butchery and meat market if he would join him and become his sausage maker. Val would use a recipe handed down to him from his great-grandfather in Germany. He agrees and looks forward to hearing from Mr. Hormel and the chance to fulfill his dream. In the second part of the novel Judy will tell the story of John Dillinger, robbing the bank in Mason City, Iowa. Judy's grandfather, Harry, worked as an insurance salesman and had his office in the bank. Harry was narrowly missed by gunfire when he ducks behind a traffic sign as the robbers fled the bank with their machine guns blazing. Judy's future husband and her brother Bob, attend Buddy Holly's Winter Dance Party at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa on the day that ended Buddy Holly's life in a tragic plane crash, known as, "The Day The Music Died." In the third part of the novel Judy tells the story of Gary's and her rocky relationship. A story about love, deception, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Gary becomes an alcoholic and sadly their marriage suffered. In time though difficult they were able, with Gods help, to restore their marriage and their commitment to their Lord and Savior. They have now been married forty-nine years. Judy realizes that without tests and trials one cannot have a testimony so she will gladly share hers with you.
