Book excerpt: Poor corporate governance has been cited as one of the impediments contributing to poor economic performance in most African countries. The New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) has recognised corporate governance as one of the fundamental factors for Africa's economic emancipation. Since independence in 1964, Zambia has undergone a number of political and economic reforms in search of economic prosperity, but meaningful development has continued to be elusive. This thesis focuses on corporate governance's implications for Zambia's development from a stakeholder perspective. The last two decades have witnessed a worldwide renaissance in corporate governance and recognition of its importance for economic development has stimulated research that examines the inter-play between the two concepts, not only in the developed world, but in developing nations as well. Building on NEPADs assertion, the current study sheds light on corporate governance'a potentiality to enhance Zambia's economic performance by examining in detail the views of a wide and diverse range of stakeholders.
