Book excerpt: Dred Scott was born in about 1800 in Virginia. His first known slave owner was Peter Blow of Southampton County, Virginia. He married Harriet Robinson in about 1836 in Wisconsin Territory. They had five children. Their daughter, Eliza Scott (1838-1882), married Joshua Wilson Madison and was the mother of five children. Dred died in 1858 in Missouri.
