Abel was a descendant of Giles Knight who emigrated from England to Pennsylvania in the 1680s. Abel and Rachel were Quakers by faith. They moved to Virginia in the 1740s and lived there for about ten years before moving to North Carolina where they spent the remainder of their life. They were the parents of seven children. Descendants live in North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana and other parts of the United States.
