She is the only author who has enchanted me enough to read all of her works, although I am trying to do the same with other favorite writers. I am fascinated by how similar Austen's world is to ours. In spite of the hundreds of years that separate us to her daily life, we all understand her books. Society, our emotions, gender roles, life: It is the same in spite of the separation. Her attitude towards society and the role of women is chillingly similar to true feminists nowadays. She breaks all gender roles and rules on what people think about her. She writes book with romantic themes, yes, but that is not the point of her works. I had a professor who always said she "wrote books making fun of the books people think she writes." Her works are analytical, satirical and critical on society's ideas of marriage, romance and specifically women. Her language is another thing of beauty. It is especially enchanting to read aloud.
