Book excerpt: This report summarizes a study of alternatives for maintenance and improvement of John's Pass, an inlet connecting northern Boca Ciega Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. This report addresses the physical characteristics of John's Pass, the influence of the Pass on the surrounding beaches, and the natural resources surrounding the Pass. This study evaluated the feasibility of alternatives for maintaining the channel and optimizing the transfer of sand at the Pass while maintaining and enhancing the surrounding natural resources. The ultimate purpose of this study is to provide a long term comprehensive management plan for implementation of the optimum means to maintain and improve the Pass.
