Book excerpt: Excerpt from St. Luke's Hospital Medical and Surgical Reports, Vol. 1: For 1908 and 1909 The publication of a medical and surgical report by St. Luke's Hospital has been made possible through the generosity of the late Margaret J. P. Graves, whose many gifts to medical institutions will long be remembered by our profession. About three years before her death she started a fund, as a nucleus, to be employed by the medical board of the hospital for scientific work. By the terms of her will she made that fund permanent by an endowment. The medical board has determined to use the interest of this fund to publish, if possible, an annual medical and surgical report in order to stimulate the scientific work Of the hospital and to present to those interested in the hospital and in medicine a general summary of what is being done in the institution, which otherwise, as is the case at present, would lie for ever buried. The first volume is a modest one, some of the departments are not represented, but we hope larger experience and a better system will result in the production of a valuable medical publication.
