Rudder, in his County History, of 1779, truly says of this parish tha It is beautifully varied with easy elevations, and some bolder rising grounds, which form a very agreeable landscape, as seen from several points of View. The soil is rich and fertile, consisting chiefly of loam, intermixed with different proportions of sand, and in some parts a little clay.
