Book excerpt: The earliest known ancestor, John Tennisson, was born ca. 1628 in Holland, and died 1683 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland. He married Elizabeth ? (d. after 1684) ca. 1651 in St. Mary's County. He came to America from England probably in 1650 with Thomas Gerrard's adventurers. Elizabeth was also an immigrant from England. Another emigrant, Justinian Tennisson (Dennis/Tennis) (ca. 1632-bef. 1699), brother of the above John, was born in Yarmouth, England. He died in Charles Co., Maryland. Descendants live in North Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, and elsewhere.
