After being ordained to the Reformed Church ministry by the Pella, Iowa Classis in 1890, he became a missionary at Busrah, Bahrein, and at other locations in Arabia from 1891 to 1905 and was a member of the Arabian Mission. He is the founder of the American Mission Hospital in Bahrain.
