Clarence's father worked for Crawford Lumber Company and also drove a stage between Cedar River and Menominee. Clarence talks about falling in the river he lived by as a child and having to be rescued. He also remembers the various sicknesses he acquired as a young boy such as diphtheria and small pox. Clarence discusses when the Great Depression hit and his first job selling donuts. After his brother was injured, Clarence took his place working at Lipland Grocery Store. In 1933 Clarence got married and started working for the Buckeye Store. His next job was at the paper mill. Clarence spent some time living in Detroit and he can remember the racial tensions in the area. He ends by discussing the various organizations he was involved in.
