Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asynchronous sequential circuits are sequential circuits which are free of a synchronizing clock signal. Asynchronous circuits allow the circuit designer to use the maximum available speed of his devices; however, the lack of synchronism may cause problems in the operation of some circuits. Unwanted output changes, or hazards, may occur in the output due to different parts of the circuit switching at different times. Hazards occurring in the feedback variables, or a race between two variables could cause the circuit to make a transition to a different state than the desired one. (Author).
