Buildings, more than any other kind of structure require an estimated cost for the reason that the men most interested in its design and completion are not of an engineering profession and are not trained to think along mathematical lines. After the plans of a building have been conpiled by an Architect, it is an engineer's problem, not only to design the steel work, but at the end to make an investigation of the cost of the building, which will enable himself, or his employer, to select a contractor, whose figure most closely approaches the cost estimated. The same method as was used for the estimate of the foregoing plans may be used for a building of any size.
