Book excerpt: Mayle Stone, a young fur trapper, lives with Izusa, a Cherokee woman whom he received as 'payment' for a wolf skin from a Cherokee brave. During a visit to Fort St Vrain for supplies, Izusa comes to the attention of an outlaw, Jon Rudyman, who plans to kill the trapper and take the woman.
