The book concludes with the author's interrogation of a routine suspect in the case of a five-year-old girl who has gone missing for a week. In between these events, the author describes his career journey as an FBI special agent, a journey that sometimes produces success and vindication for crime victims and, sadly, investigations ending in failure. The author, a rather sheltered son of religious parents, navigates a troubled world of darkness, crime and sin.
