Book excerpt: During the years of my childhood, growing up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, my grandmother who migrated to St. Thomas from Antigua would often return to visit her homeland taking along with her the entire household. These occasional trips developed a passion in me for both places. Once I moved to Florida and began my own family, I wanted to share with them this same tradition. Upon realizing we could not financially afford these trips, I decided to write my experiences in a book. Florida is a new home for me. It's the birthplace of my husband and children. I feel welcomed and at home. As the only Caribbean in this family, it is my duty to share the part of me they could not experience. We have made it to both islands as a whole family only once. It is a memory to treasure. I have enveloped my longing for the extended family among my husband's relatives, local and international friendships, lasting college friendships, and church life. "Jerusha, Antigua Me Come From" is a phrase used in this book.
