Book excerpt: This new composition, 'The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom; A New Setting for a Small Parish Choir' is music simple enough for small choir of mixed ages and abilities to sing with minimal instruction and rehearsal time. After surveying numerous Orthodox choir CD's commonly available from popular Orthodox booksellers, there seems to be a basic dichotomy in the available repertoire, either: new music sung by professionals which is largely inaccessible to an amateur parish choir, or, well-known traditional favorites sung in various local arrangements. This composition, however, seeks to provide a musical experience that captures the best of both types: a new composition that is easy to sing! This music score contains new SATB homophonic music to be sung in English for the complete Orthodox Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom used in church on most Sundays outside of Great Lent. Special features of this book include music set in chorale form on only two staves with the hymn text between the treble and bass clefs, larger font, clear section marks, as well as the inclusion of the Priest and Deacon's liturgical cues throughout the score for the aid of conductors and singers alike. The music may be sung in its entirety, or favorite selections may be excerpted. The following table of contents shows the scope of this musical score.
