Book excerpt: Mining educational data, also known as Educational Data Mining (EDM), is the process of using data mining techniques and methodologies to educational data in order to gain insights and make informed judgements relevant to the field of education. This process is also known as Educational Data Mining (EDM). In the field of electronic direct marketing (EDM), a number of novel approaches have emerged over the course of the last few years. The following are examples of some of them: Insights on the Behavior of Learners: Learning analytics focuses on the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and the settings in which they are learning in order to enhance not just the environments in which learning takes place but also the learning itself. This is done with the goal of making learning both more effective and more enjoyable. It comprises the use of data mining and statistical methods to find patterns and trends in educational data, with the ultimate goal of enabling educators to make decisions that are data-informed. A method that makes use of machine learning algorithms in order to produce projections regarding a range of educational outcomes, such as student performance, dropout rates, or learning obstacles, is referred to as "predictive modeling," and its usage has been given the title "predictive modeling" as a term of art. By looking at data from the past, such as grades, attendance, and engagement levels, predictive models are able to identify patterns and provide forecasts for future student performance or behavior. Predictive models are also able to anticipate how students will behave in the future.
