Book excerpt: Old Pine Hill Methodist Church was founded in 1853 by Reverend Solomon Long. The Methodist Conference closed the church for eight years in 1969. In 1977, the church's trustees began work to see if they could drop out of the Methodist Conference. With the help of the Surry County Board of Missions of the United Methodists, they were allowed to buy their church. It was then renamed Old Pine Hill Community Church and opened as a nondenominational church.
