Quartz and feldspar, clay, coarse micaceous minerals, organic matter, pyrite, chert, and rock fragments were recognized in decreasing abundance. Coarsest grains of quartz and feldspar range in size from fine sand to silt. Two types of lamination recognized in thin section are distinct silt laminae and distinct organic laminae.
