The specimens were submitted primarily for the purpose of fulfilling acceptance tests up material used at the Canal Zone. The tensile strength of the specimens was the important consideration, but the major portion of the investigation has been of a purely supplementary character to determine the laws of behavior of the cables in connection with their important physical characteristics.
