Book excerpt: This study explores postcolonial representations of ethnic minorities and the construction of national identities in plays written by six contemporary German-speaking women playwrights, drawing on approaches of cultural and postcolonial studies, African American and other minority feminist criticism, as well as Anglo-American and German feminist scholarship. The study finds that minority characters are reduced to function as catalysts for problems of the German and Austrian community.
