The examinations at the close of the year were very satisfactory, some of them reflecting great credit upon the teachers. One noticeable feature was the almost uniform excellence in Arithmetic, particularly in Men tal Arithmetic. Still more noticeable was the great improvement in reading in all the schools. We shall divide the credit for this improvement between Mon roe's excellent Readers, introduced a year and a half ago, and the teachers, who have bestowed much labor and care upon this part of their work.
